Mia Abelson is an oil painter, best known for her brightly colored geometric compositions. Her early oil paintings are rooted in the abstract style, which unlocked her agile experiments with tone and shape.
In 1974 Mia Abelson graduated of the New York University's Fine Arts program. However she devoted most of her adult life to painting. Mia Abelson’s canvases show a profound curiosity about color and its ability to convey emotions. Mia Abelson is often inspired by landscapes, science, and the cosmos, they throb with her cleverly modulated palettes. Light blues bleed into the dark with a sense of fluid, rushed movement.
Mia Abelson's artworks were influenced, in part, by Willem de Kooning. When she opened her studio in New York, she began to paint abstract paintings with a dynamism influenced by Graham. In some of his paintings, you can almost feel the arch of Mia Abelson's arm as she threw herself on the canvas.
