I am a speech scientist, professor at Stockholm University. I have a PhD in Phonetics and an Engineer degree in Electronics and Telecommunication. I have been an amateur photographer since I was a teenager. As my retirement age approached, I invested in professional photo equipment and decided to start as a part-time professional photographer, along with my academic teaching and research assignments during my last work years at Stockholm University.
Photography is for me the challenge of capturing, in a split-second, an aesthetical image that conveys an emotion, characterizes of a person, a place or an atmosphere. I think about that when I take pictures and try to analyse the results in order to gain some understanding about the factors influencing the outcome. Reliable equipment is a good start but learning from one's many failures and developing a patient and critical eye are components that I hope will help me produce some good quality work photography.
So far I have a number of published pictures in different outlets and posted some of them on the website that I am building (https://foto.vermelho.se). I made two trips to Portugal to document a day in the life of a small Portuguese town and some of the pictures will soon be published in a book to be released in Portugal, spring 2020.
