Chayim Shvarzblat

Chayim Shvarzblat is a watercolor painter, born in Lakewood, New Jersey in 1954. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Painting from the Académie de la Grande Chaumière, Paris.

This skilled watercolor painter uses the ‘pure’ watercolor technique, also known as the ‘English Method’, for the creation of his paintings.

Shvarzblat received a Harkness Fellowship in 1980. Two years later, he received a Guggenheim Fellowship. In 1992, Chayim represented the USA at the Venice Biennale.

In 1983, Shvarzblat started working at the Oxford University, London, as an artist-in-residence.

During the ’90s, he was as a professional illustrator and portrait artist on commission.

In 2010, Chayim started working at the Institute of Fine Arts, New York University as a visiting professor. He teaches atmospheric watercolor, both in-studio and en Plein air.

Shvarzblat spends most of his time at his atelier in Manhattan, New York, where he creates his artworks.
