The Centennial Valley is a place of sweeping grasslands and wetlands, embraced by the forest ragged peaks of the Centennial and Gravelly Mountains. The Centennial looks very much as it did more than a century ago. In parts of the valley, not so much as a power line mars the view. In the winter, just a handful of people inhabit the valley. Summer, the human population is usually fewer than 50 - and they are far outnumbered by cattle.

J Bar L Ranch offers vacation homes in the pristine Centennial Valley next to Yellowstone National Park and activities such as riding, fishing, hiking and just invigorate yourself in the vast landscapes and the tranquility of nature. Bryan Ulring, manager at the ranch hired me to cover the location, the activities and the vacation rental homes that they offer.

My mission
My mission here is to give the viewer of the images and videos the feeling of “I want to be there!“ and
enough visual information that they make the decision to book their trip.
The goal is to present the destination in the absolutely best way and still be truthful. If you promise more than the future guests will experience, it will be very bad for the destination as the disappointed guest reviews will start popping up.
J Bar L Ranch is a authentic working cattle ranch. Far from the pressure of crowds and tourists; enjoy the true spirit of the Old West and the ever-present feeling of freedom that only Montana Big Sky country affords. On the working ranch regular people can come and see how the life of a modern cowboy is. Since many has the (wrong) idea that cowboys always ride in full speed shouting “Yiihaa!”, which is very far from the low stress cattle management J Bar L is using, I needed to make the presentation very calm. I also promised Bryan who runs the ranch to give him as much publicity I could.
Result
Except for the photos and the presentation video you can see examples of below I also got some really nice bonus publicity for my client.
Bonus publicity
- Winner – Travel Photography Awards 2013 (extremely good publicity for the ranch, and for me of course).
- Photos showed on Oprah Winfrey‘s tv show Super Soul Sunday on the 9th of November 2014.
- Two full spreads in the huge coffee table book “Great Adventures” by Lonely Planet.
- Five page article in the Swedish paper Aftonbladet Söndag, 2013, 33, 12 images – Travel article “Life on a ranch in Montana USA.
- Featured image in CreativeLive’s workshop Efficient Lighting & Post-Production. CreativeLive is a free live online worldwide workshops taught by world class experts. With the comment “This is the best photo we have seen during these days.” from Jare Platt.
